Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
An elderly sick woman was allegedly kidnapped by a bank for being unable to pay her monthly loan installment. This incident occurred on Tuesday. She was reportedly held captive from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM on that day and was also beaten. The woman's family has filed a complaint against the bank at the Narendrapur police station in connection with the incident. The police have initiated an investigation based on the complaint.
Her eldest son, Debashish, believes that they were delayed in paying the monthly installments. However, since then, they have been receiving various threats. Allegedly, some people from the bank arrived at Debashish's house on Tuesday morning. During an argument, his sick mother was suddenly taken away from the house. Debashish says that he had taken a loan of one lakh rupees from the bank about five months ago. One installment of the loan was still pending.
He claims that he had previously taken loans from the same bank—one for 30,000 rupees and another for 50,000 rupees—and had paid off both loans. Debashish states that he was recently repeatedly called to take another loan. When the need arose, he took a loan of one lakh rupees. He was paying the installments regularly. However, he could not make the payment for the February installment yet, and then this incident happened.
After the son's complaint, the Narendrapur police intervened and rescued the elderly woman. The elderly woman and her son have accused the bank manager of forcing them to sign a bond in front of the police. The bond stated that they would repay the installments by March 15. On the other hand, when contacted regarding the incident, the bank did not respond.
